of low-hanging fruit, right? totally voluntary thing. i mean who could be opposed to this? the nra is opposed to this. the nra is wildly opposed to this. in tucson top, anniversary of the massacre there, the nra has come outraging against the tucson gun buyback program. they're trying to stop it. an nra board member is threatening that the nra will sue to stop tucson from destroying the guns that they handed over. the guns, regardless what their owners wanted, done with them, those guns must be sold to the highest bidder and put back into circulation. the nra says the state must not destroy the weapons that people handed over specifically so the weapons could be destroyed. instead, the nra says the state has to sell them, keep them in circulation, and thereby become a gun dealer itself. when your response to the political cliche of low-hanging fruit is something so cartoonishly insensitive, so cartoonishly villainous, you then bring upon us a second political cliche. you have jumped the shark. blocking voluntary efforts by people to get rid of their own guns because they want to vo

. this afternoon, biden sat down with the national rifle association, a first for the obama administration. the nra says its membership increased by more than 100,000 since the sandy hook shooting. attorney general holder is meeting with dick's sporting goods and walmart. white house is calling in heavy hitters to change public opinion including bill clinton who denounced the use of assault weapons and the administration has the strongest ally in gabby giffords, herself a victim of gun violence but the president has work cut out for him. nearly half of all americans oppose a ban or semiautomatic weapons including those in the federal assault weapons ban that expired near lay decade ago. so let's spin on all of this. i guess what this is building towards at least politically is the white house and allies want to try to isolate the nra, even on the right and within the republican party and so you have a meeting today with walmart, dick's sporting goods. they want to take, you know, groups like that, businesses like that, interests like that and sort of pit everyone, this sort of wide array against th

as the nra and you cannot contribute? >> not at all, part of what we put in the letter to vice president biden who by the way did not blame the industry for violence i note in his remarks. as part of the letter to biden, we said that even if we are not part of the problem, we are willing to be part of the solution. we are interested in contributing to -- to reducing america's problem with violence. and some of the things that we suggest are games are powerful teaching tools and then the teaching potential of games has not been well explored at all. there are some people working in the video game field, some of our members who are working on games for conflict resolution, games for anti-bullying. there are people working on health games to help people who have to take -- who have mental problems to make sure they stay on their medication to gameify people staying, helping themselves to remain safe and to not be a danger. there are many, many things that the gaming industry wants to do to help with this problem. one issue though is that the government has been very slow to fund gaming tech

the nra and representatives from the entertainment industry this evening. kathleen sebelius wills attend some of the meetings. it is a big step for president obama's new gun violence task force launched in the wake of the massacre at sandy hook elementary. but it did not necessarily leave many with high expectations. businesses that sell a lot of guns like walmart will also be in on some meetings. those groups are more likely to be influenced by the nra since they're making a big profit off those firearms. and they do not want to appear too entrenched in the white house's anti-gun push. >>> walmart says after the shooting, guns are now one of their highest-selling items. while it does want to help the administration, when that starts to contradict with sales that's where the help stops. the nra obviously has a lot of money and therefore a lot of power going into these talks but gabby giffords' new anti-gun group is looking to counteract that. she and her husband mark kelly kick started a campaign this week that they're calling common sense measures to curb gun violence. now, they're hopi

insight into that fascinating meeting today at the white house between vice president biden and the nra. what can the vice president, what can the white house reasonably expect to get out of the nra today? >> the nra is going to go in there with a conciliatory face. they're being smart. they're sending not their top lobbyist but an official who has worked with biden over the years, worked with him in the '90s in the senate, is actually friends with him from the delaware beach, jim baker, the nra's number two, but he's coming with a very hard message. the nra told me that in the past 18 days, their paid memberships have gone up 100,000. they've gone from 4.1 million to 4.2 million. and they tell me that before this debate is over, they want to get to 5 million. so the nra sees this fight as a growth opportunity. willie, it's $25 a year, you get a free camo duffel bag with that. and we're told that jim baker, the nra lobbyist, is going to tell vice president biden we're willing to discuss, talk to you about any possible constructive solution, but here's the kicker, we listen to people bey
